This summer, researchers from UPEI’s Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering provided an update to residents on efforts to bring Georgetown to Net Zero.

Dr. Kuljeet Grewal is the lead investigator on the project. He has been involved since day one, when plans for the Georgetown project began in October 2023.

The province is seeking input from people in a new survey to help government better understand the scope of the cleantech sector in Prince Edward Island. 

The Cleantech Profile Survey will assist government to develop a profile for the sector and guide decisions and initiatives to support growth in this area.

Female residents of PEI have given a significant boost to gender equality in their fields. This includes Olympic bobsled champion Heather Moyse, singer Angele Arsenault, Pat Mella, Nancy Guptill, and Catherine Callbeck. Mella, Guptill, and Callbeck were part of the Island’s “famous five,” when women occupied the top governmental positions in 1993.

Daisuke Anami, a member of the Oita prefectural government in Oita, Japan, was one of the representatives at the 2024 Global Sustainable Islands Summit. Japan was one of 50 Island nations that took part at the Summit held in Prince Edward Island where island states discussed sustainable development.

One of the speakers at the Global Sustainable Islands Summit, that was held in PEI on May 21-May 23, 2024, is Dr. Farooque, Professor and Associate Dean, Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation at UPEI. His research focuses on fundamental understanding and development of state-of-the-art climate-smart technologies for Atlantic Canadian agriculture industry.
